Liver Bird Copyright

LIVERPOOL Football Club have won a court battle which protects the club’s right to copyright over the Liver Bird. They very controversially secured the trademark in 2010 in an attempt to stop pirated items. Many people were opposed to this and claimed the iconic Liver Bird belonged to the whole of Liverpool not just the football club.Liverpool Football Club has the bird on the shirt and crest. An appeal to challenge the decision of the Trade Marks and Designs Registration Office of the European Union was made, however a judgement has been found in favour of the football club. The decision to challenge the club keeping the copyright even involved the Bartel family (Carl Bartel designed the Royal Liver Birds) but the original blueprints appear to have been lost. The battle is to continue but so far Liverpool football club have won the first round.
